Who regulates credit unions?

Who regulates credit unions?

The state’s Department of Financial Institutions regulates state-chartered credit unions. The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), however, regulates general credit unions. The NCUA is an agency of the federal government and credit unions are subject to much of the same consumer regulations as other financial institutions. In some cases, such as investments and mortgage/business lending, credit unions must adhere to stricter regulations.
